These photos were taken on a recent impromptu trip to Prince Edward Island on the east coast of Canada. I had been told that the scenery was just as beautiful as our west coast, but in a very different way. We arrived as hurricane Earl swept up towards the Island - we seemed to have every type of weather apart from snow!

There are four main parts to the Island - it is less than 6,000 square kms and at any point you are never more than 16kms away from the sea. We enjoyed the northern and the eastern areas most - rolling green hills, quaint harbour villages, pristine red sandy beaches, fields of corn, soya beans and, of course, potatoes!

We both ate lobster for the first time - I neither loved it nor hated it, but it was definitely an experience and when on PEI................ The confederation trail runs all the way across the Island. It is the old railway track and you can hike, run or bike it and in the winter snowshoe or ski! We didn't go across the confederation bridge, but it was impressive and has made a great difference to the economy of the Island.

The photos of the lighthouse and the church are just one of many - the churches were particularly beautiful, although there also seemed to be a graveyard around every corner, which is something you don't see in the west.

We visited a couple of wollen mills - mostly sheep and alpaca - I came home with a few woolly things for my tapestry and spinning. There are too many artisans to mention and ................... then there's the food! It is, after all, the culinary capital of Canada!
